Is E by Evelyn Cosmetics Just a Fancier Packaged Coastal Scents?

During the season finale of Basketball Wives announced the launch of her new cosmetics line E by Evelyn Cosmetics. Tami made the comment that “the line was done by the same people who did MAC”. What does that mean exactly? Is it a product of MAC cosmetics? Is it formulated by MAC cosmetics? Truth of the matter is the packaging and the the color palettes look striking similar to Coastal Scents except they’re $10 more. Even the E by Evelyn Cosmetics brushes look like the Coastal Scents brushes. Not trying to knock her hustle, she is the queen of eye shadow but call it what it is, just say you’re endorsing the product. E by Evelyn Cosmetics has some bright vibrant colors but Coastal Scents has such a variety of colors, Evelyn’s line could have easily just been a create your from Coastal Scents. She may have come up with the E on the outer case but if the packaging and color palettes are the same then you have essentially just put your name on an existing product, i.e an endorsement. And if that’s the case they should have been praising Coastal Scents instead of MAC. You be the judge. Is E by Evelyn Cosmetics just Coastal Scents with a higher price tag?

  1. like i said this is coastal scents. I have that palette she is trying to said. MAC doesnt make coastal scents so why would they make and formulate something so similar to an existing (somewhat) competitors product? We don’t believe you she needs more people.

  2. I just think most make up looks alike just a different brand on the outside. I use BH cosmetics and when I looked at the make up above they both looked like my BH cosmetics pallete. The question should not be what her make up looks similar to the question should be whether it’s better quality than the make up its being compared to and we won’t really know unless we try it.

    • Quality is key. But people who like her are going to buy it because it’s associated with her. The issue is if she is just putting her name on another brand it can be deceptive and unethical. Let’s just say you’ve bought and tried Coastal Scents and don’t like it and then you go and buy the E by Evelyn brand then you just wasted more money because it wasn’t branded as a Coastal Scents product. It may or may not be Coastal Scents, but it’s as if they want it to believe it is formulated by or associated with MAC to insinuate quality. I’m no eyeshadow afficiando, i’m more of a lash and liner girl myself, but I’ll definitely be checking for reviews to see what the shadow fiends think about E by Ev.

  3. Let’s be clear. MAC is Estee Lauder’s marquee brand, so we are saying this brand is Estee Lauder? Estee Lauder also makes Smashbox, Origins and Tom Ford. In no way is Evelyn’s brand associated with MAC whose parent company is Estee Lauder who also makes Coach as so on.Why the hell would they be? They have nothing to gain by being associated with her. I am sure she meant the packaging because this cant be remotely associated with MAC. The quality looks good but companies like MAC and Makeup Forever hold a high standard. I agree by saying that this is associated with MAC is extremely misleading and can place false expectations on quality. This could be comparable to Wet N Wild for all we know. (Don’t front their shadows are hella pigmented)

    • Its definitely difficult to believe that her make-up would be associated with a brand so reknowned in the cosmetics industry. Coastal Scents, Wet N Wild, MAC, whatever it is and whomever it was created by kudos. I just don’t like deception. Call it what it is. If the girl at that MAC counter helped you pick the colors then say that but don’t say it’s done by the people who did MAC. That phrase bothers the hell outta me because it’s SOOOO ambiguous.

  4. I’m pretty sure Tami said that just to get people talking. They all damn well know this makeup is from China and that all she did was stamp her name on the box. Smart business woman but don’t let your friends go around lying so that you can make a sale. Sheesh.

    • lol@ made in China. I did find it interesting that Tami as the one that said that it was made by the same people who did MAC and not Evelyn.

  5. I had to google this because I was confused. When I saw her palettes I had to take pics of both her line and coastal scents.. By no means do I knock her hustle, in fact I am proud of her, but her makeup looks exactly like coastal scents from top to bottom except the E. The smokey eye palette and the 28 neutral palette, looks exactly the same as coastal scents…EXACTLY! So my question was not whether her makeup looked similar to coastal scents (because it obviously looks just like it). I was just wondering if she was really affiliated with coastal scents or MAC?

    • @VeeKay if her make-up is Coastal Scents and private labeled as E by Evelyn Cosmetics, she technically can’t call her make-up is Coastal Scents. It’s like buying Wal-Mart brand mac and cheese. They can’t say, oh it’s really Kraft. I honestly have found NO evidence that his brand is affiliated with MAC in any way. And honestly, Tami said it not Evelyn so it’s not like Evelyn is misleading her product…it’s a pretty crafty way to falsly represent your product just have your friends make bogus claims.

  6. Personally, I really don’t care. I like to support women entrepreneurs especially if they are doing something positive. This is irrelevant to behavior on the show, business is business. I just liked the colors. Now, I did try the shadows and to my surprise the colors were very fresh and the neutrals lasted all day unlike many other brands. I have also used MAC for many years. MAC or not I was very happy with the quality of the product.

    • Thanks for the insight LMV. I’m not much of a shadow user myself. If you’d like to do a review and send it in, I’d love to post it on the site!

  7. i went online to check out the reviews for her makeup, because when i first saw it, it reminded me of my coastal scents palette. However I found a reviewer online that actually purchased the product and said that it was sent from a company called ‘Crown Brush’.http://crownbrush.us/, now crown brush is a company that makes makeup, you can add you own logo for like 25.00, its call “Private Label” to any palette that you choose. however i read nothing but good things about the E by Evelyn

    • @Nikki – Thanks for the update! Now we know the source of E by Evelyn! I’m glad to hear that the shadows are getting such great reviews, she is the reigning queen of shadow afterall so I can’t say i’m surprised.

      • So I am in Iraq and my girlfriend said she wants this stuff. I was being cheap looking for a coupon code HAHA. And found if you GOOGLE the street address on “evelyn’s” website you will get routed to Crownbrush. I told my girlfriend and she decided on something else.

        • Sending love to Iraq for Clark88! Evelyn should have just said she was working with Crown Brush, she knows that we are savvy and are going to Google it. Now she looks like a liar. We know she didn’t make it from scratch. Duh.
